Walk-in showers for easy, accessible bathing
A walk-in shower is an accessible solution to support everyday bathing. With a low-threshold step, a shower seat and grab rails if needed, walk-in showers offer a safer way for older and disabled people to wash than a standard bath. We design walk-in showers around your requirements, then our own team fits them in three to five days. Our walk-in showers start from £8,500, fully installed.
Lines open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm.

What is a walk-in shower?
A walk-in shower is a shower with a low, anti-slip tray and a small step, from 40mm (about 1.5 inches), so you can walk straight in instead of climbing over a bath side. It has a screen or curtain to keep the water in, with grab rails where you need them and the option of a seat so you can sit down to wash. We have various shower options to choose from; we usually recommend a thermostatic one, because it keeps the water at a steady temperature throughout.
Who is a walk-in shower for?
You're on your feet, but steps are getting harder
If a bath side or a high shower tray has become hard to manage, a walk-in shower is worth a look.
You're living with arthritis, dementia or frailty
A shower seat lets you sit while you wash, and we can keep the room feeling familiar. It’s the option people ask us for most when they contact us about arthritis, dementia or frailty.
Someone helps you to shower
A half-height screen lets a person stand outside the shower and help, while the floor and carer stay dry.

Use a wheelchair or a wheeled shower chair?
A wet room is usually the better choice, because the floor is completely flat. 69% of wheelchair users who contact us ask for a wet room.
Do you need a walk-in shower or wet room?
The big difference is the floor. A walk-in shower has a low tray with a small step. A wet room has a completely flat floor, with no step at all. Here’s how they compare.
If you think a wet room is a better fit for you and your needs, head over to our mobility wet rooms page using the button below.

Frequently asked questions about walk-in showers
If your question isn’t answered here, call us free on 0800 999 8994 and we’ll happily talk it through.
How much does a walk-in shower cost?
Our walk-in showers start from £8,500, fully installed. The final price depends on the size and layout of your bathroom, the shower and screen you choose, and any extra work, such as moving pipes. You’ll get a written price after your free home visit, with nothing added on afterwards. If you’re eligible, you won’t pay VAT on your shower. Read our guide to accessible bathroom costs.
Are walk-in showers suitable for elderly people?
Yes. A walk-in shower suits many older people, especially if you’re still on your feet but find it hard to step over a bath side or a high shower tray. The low step and anti-slip tray, with a seat and grab rails if you need them, make showering safer and easier. If you use a wheelchair or need a completely flat floor, a wet room is usually the better fit.
Do you remove my old bath or shower?
Yes. We take out your old bath or shower, remove all the waste and recycle what we can. It’s part of the installation, so there’s nothing extra to arrange.
How long does it take to install a walk-in shower?
Most walk-in showers take three to five days to fit. It depends on the size of the room and the work involved. We’ll tell you how long yours will take before we start.
Will there be disruption or mess?
We keep it to a minimum. Our own team protects your floors with dust sheets, tidies up at the end of each day and takes all the waste away. You’ll have a working toilet for most of the work. If we’re fitting a new one, you may be without a toilet for a few hours while we swap it, and we’ll plan that with you.
Can I have a seat in my walk-in shower?
Yes. A shower seat is an option on every walk-in shower we fit. You can choose a seat with arm rests, for up to 159kg (25 stone), a wooden slatted seat for up to 254kg (40 stone), our Onyx seat for up to 197kg (31 stone), or a drop-down seat that folds away. You also choose your shower (thermostatic, electric or digital) and your wall panels.
What's the difference between a walk-in shower and a wet room?
The floor. A walk-in shower has a low tray with a small step, from 40mm. A wet room has a completely flat, waterproof floor with no step at all, so it suits wheelchair users best. Walk-in showers start from £8,500 and wet rooms from £10,000, both fully installed. Explore our mobility wet rooms.
Show 7 more questions
Can a walk-in shower replace my bath?
Yes, and it’s one of the most common jobs we do. We take the bath out and fit a walk-in shower in its place, often in the same space. Between August 2022 and June 2026, we swapped 168 baths for walk-in showers. Read how to go from a bath to a walk-in shower.
What size should a walk-in shower be?
There’s no single standard size. The smallest walk-in shower tray we usually fit is 1000mm by 800mm, and the most common shower area we’ve fitted, across walk-in showers and wet rooms, is 1450mm by 1150mm. A wet room needs a room of at least 2.0m by 1.4m. We measure your bathroom at the free home visit and design the shower around the space and the way you move. If a wheelchair needs to turn in the room, we use the 1500mm turning circle in building guidance as a benchmark, and adjust it for your home.
Do you supply and install everything?
Yes. We design, supply and fit your walk-in shower, including the plumbing, electrics, wall panels and flooring, so you don’t need to find other tradespeople. Our installers are employed by us and DBS-checked. We don’t use subcontractors.
Can I get a walk-in shower on the NHS?
The NHS doesn’t usually pay for a new walk-in shower. If you need one because of a disability, your local council may be able to help through a Disabled Facilities Grant. We don’t offer grants ourselves, but we’re happy to talk you through the options. And if you’re eligible, you won’t pay VAT on your shower. Read our guide to funding a mobility bathroom.
Will I pay VAT on a walk-in shower?
Not if you’re eligible. If you have a disability or a long-term illness and the shower is for your own use, you will be VAT exempt under HMRC rules (VAT Notice 701/7). If you’re not, but you’re 60 or over, you’ll pay a reduced rate of 5% VAT on a shower with a built-in seat, and on grab rails (HMRC rules for over-60s). Check if you’re VAT exempt with our quick checker.
Do you offer a free home visit?
Yes. One of our surveyors visits your home, measures your bathroom and talks through what you need. Our design team then creates a 3D design and a written price for you. It’s free, with no pressure and no obligation to go ahead.
What guarantee comes with my walk-in shower?
Every installation comes with a 12-month workmanship guarantee as standard, plus the manufacturers’ guarantees on the products. Our optional ForeverCare plan extends that cover, year after year.
