Mid-length walk-in baths for an easier, seated soak

If getting in and out of a full-length bath is becoming difficult, a mid-length walk-in bath is a safer, and gentler way to continue enjoying a bath. Step in over a low door and sit upright on a built-in seat, without lowering yourself right down or climbing over a high side. A mid-length walk-in bath provides a proper, warm soak, and our range of models can be installed with a shower too, so you don’t have to choose between a bath and a shower; you can have both.

Why choose a mid-length walk-in bath?

When a full-length bath is getting harder to use, a mid-length model allows bathing to be much safer, simpler, and without giving up a warm soak in your home. Here are the three things people tell us that matter most when deciding to get a mid-length walk-in bath.

Someone stepping into the Tennessee walk-in bath over its low door

Easier and safer to get in and out

With a mid-length walk-in bath you step in over a low door and sit down on a built-in seat instead of lowering yourself all the way to the floor like you would in a full-length bath, or climb over a high side. Sitting higher in the bath makes it easier to stand up again once you’re done bathing.

A proper soak, with a shower as an option

All of our mid-length walk-in baths can give you a bath and a shower in one, so there’s no decision around “bath or shower” to make. You can enjoy a warm, deep soak, up to your chest when you want to relax, or a quick shower when that suits you better.

A space-saving alternative

Our mid-length walk-in baths are shorter than our full-length alternatives. This means it will fit nicely where your current bath already sits, and provide more space for your bathroom due to the reduction in size.

Who a mid-length walk-in bath is best for

There isn’t one type of person a mid-length walk-in bath is for. There are, however, a few situations around mobility where a mid-length bath comes into its own. Here are the most common:

Finding a full-length bath harder to manage

If lowering into a full-length bath or getting back up has started to be difficult for you, a mid-length bath makes this easier. You sit much higher and have no need to climb over a high side; you step in and have a much smaller distance to lower yourself in.

You'd rather have the option to keep bathing

Plenty of people are happy with a walk-in shower replacing their bath, but many still love a relaxing soak. A mid-length walk-in bath allows you to keep bathing, do so in a much easier way, and you can have the option of including a shower too.

You feel much steadier when sat down

Trying to stand up from a deep, full-length bath can become or feel unsteady. With a mid-length bath, you’re able to bathe sitting upright on a built-in seat. This provides much more support and gives a better footing when getting in and out.

Wheelchair users and the need to transfer

If stepping into a bath isn’t an option, the Tranquility has a ramped seat you can slide straight across onto, even from a wheelchair, so there’s no need for stepping into the bath.

Every bath in our mid-length range is built for safety and comfort

Every mid-length walk-in bath comes with the following features for the upmost comfort and safety for those who need it.

Low-threshold entry

A low step and wide door remove the need to climb over a high bath side.

Tailored seating

Choose a fixed seat for upright support, or a powered seat that gently lowers and raises you.

Enhanced safety

Slip-resistant floors and thermostatic taps come as standard, holding a safe, steady temperature.

Wheelchair access

Some walk-in bath models sit at the right height for a side transfer straight from a wheelchair.

Integrated support

Slip-resistant grab rails are placed where you need them for extra steadiness.

Easy-access controls

Simple lever taps and easy waste controls suit hands with limited grip or strength.

Our commonly asked questions about mid-length mobility baths

Our team are often asked questions when it comes to choosing the right mid-length walk-in bath; we’ve answered the most common below. If your question isn’t here, our team will be happy to talk you through it on 0800 999 8994.

With all walk-in baths, you step in and sit down first, then the bath fills around you, and you will wait for it to drain before you open the door and step out once you’re finished bathing. To keep those processes comfortable, the taps fill quickly, the bath drains fast, and thermostatic controls can hold your chosen temperature so the water doesn’t cool down while you settle in. We can walk you through all of this and how it works during your free home visit with one of our accessible bathroom surveyors.

For most homes, yes. A mid-length is shorter than a full-length one, so it doesn’t need a huge amount of water, and it usually fills from a normal hot water supply. If your hot water is limited, our accessible bathroom surveyors will spot this during your free home visit and suggest the best way around this before you go ahead.

One of the most asked questions, and the honest answer is no, not in normal use. The door seals tightly against a watertight gasket, and every door is tested and comes with a leak-free guarantee, so you can relax in the water without any worries.

Yes. Most of our mid-length baths are finished with a BioCote antimicrobial protection, built into the surface to reduce bacteria. Surfaces are smooth and non-porous, with few awkward corners. A wipe round with a normal bathroom cleaner will keep that bath fresh. The seat and floor are slip-resistant but still easy to clean. Once installation is complete, our fitters will leave a guide that details further the ways keep your new bathroom clean.

Most installs are quick. If we’re only swapping out your old bath for a new one in the same place, this is often completed by our team in a single day. If there’s more to do, such as moving pipework, it may take a few days, and we’ll tell you how long the installation will take before any work begins. Our own employed fitters complete the work, keeping disruption at a minimum, and we’ll take your old bath away, ensuring your home is left clean and tidy.

Yes. The wide door and low step make it a lot easier for someone to help a loved one in and out if it is required. If having help is a need for you, or a loved one, tell our team during your free home visit and we can design the layout around this, including which way the door opens and where grab rails should go, to help and assist further.

There are various extras that can be added. Depending on the bath you’re looking at, options such as an Air Spa, chromotherapy lighting, upgraded taps, a Bluetooth sound system, or a shower screen can be included. On the Tennessee for example, the seat can be heated. These extras are priced separately from the bath, so you only pay for the ones you choose. All extras are listed clearly in your quote. The installation of the bath, and these extras are included in the specific pricing you see on our website, per bath.

You’re looked after by us. Every walk-in bath we install comes with a 12-month guarantee, and because our own team fits them, any aftercare is handled by us and never passed onto a subcontractor. You can also add ForeverCare, our optional maintenance plan, for regular servicing and priority support. If anything goes wrong, we will be there to provide a solution for you.
