Mobility wet rooms for easy, level-access bathing
A mobility wet room is an accessible bathroom for older people and people with a disability, with a completely flat floor, so there’s no step, tray or bath side to get over. The floor is waterproofed and slopes gently to a drain, with anti-slip safety flooring and watertight wall panels. We design yours around you, then our own team fits it in three to five days. Our wet rooms start from £10,000, fully installed.

What is a mobility wet room?
A mobility wet room is an accessible bathroom that lets you keep washing safely, comfortably and independently at home, even as your mobility changes. There’s nothing to step over, so you can shower at your own pace, with or without help. For many people, it’s what makes it possible to stay in the home they love for longer.
- More than half of all accessible bathrooms we've installed since August 2022 have been wet rooms.
Who is a wet room for?
You use a wheelchair or a wheeled shower chair
A completely flat floor means you can wheel straight in. 69% of wheelchair users who contact us ask for a wet room.
Sitting down to wash is more comfortable
With nothing to step over, you can sit to shower and move between a chair and a seat more easily.
Someone helps you to shower
An open floor gives a carer room to help, and a half-height care screen with a curtain, like The Edale design above, keeps them dry.
How we install wet rooms
A floor that slopes to a drain
We form the shower area into your floor so it slopes gently to a drain, with a stainless steel grate.
One sealed, anti-slip floor
Safety flooring goes down in one welded sheet, turned 100mm up the walls around the shower and sealed.
Panels, not tiles
Watertight wall panels mean no grout lines to leak or clean. Where the water can’t drain away on its own, we fit a small waste pump.

Your choice

- Grab rails where you need them (we fit them in 92% of our wet rooms)
- A thermostatic shower on a riser rail
Steady on your feet, but finding a bath side hard to manage?
A walk-in shower, with a low tray and a small step, may suit you instead. The table below shows how the two compare.
Do you need a wet room or a walk-in shower?
The big difference is the floor. A wet room has a completely flat floor, with no step at all. A walk-in shower has a low tray with a small step. Here’s how they compare.
If a walk-in shower sounds like a better fit for you and your needs, head over to our walk-in showers page using the button below.

Frequently asked questions about mobility wet rooms
If your question isn’t answered here, call us free on 0800 999 8994 and we’ll happily talk it through.
How much does a wet room cost?
Our wet rooms start from £10,000, fully installed. The final price depends on the size and layout of your bathroom, the screen, shower and seat you choose, and any extra work, such as moving pipes or fitting a waste pump. You’ll get a written price after your free home visit, with nothing added on afterwards. If you’re eligible, you won’t pay VAT on your wet room. Read how much a mobility wet room costs.
How long does it take to fit a wet room?
Most wet rooms take three to five days to fit. It depends on the size of the room and the work involved. We’ll agree your dates with you after your free home visit, and tell you how long yours will take before we start.
Won't a wet room flood the bathroom?
Not when it’s built properly. We form the shower area into your floor so it slopes gently to a drain, and lay anti-slip safety flooring in one welded sheet, turned up the walls around the shower and sealed. The walls have watertight panels, not tiles and grout. Most of our wet rooms also have a screen, a curtain or both to keep the splashes in the shower area. Already have a wet room that leaks? See our wet room flooring repairs.
Will there be disruption or mess?
We keep it to a minimum. Our own team protects your floors with dust sheets, tidies up at the end of each day and takes all the waste away. You’ll have a working toilet for most of the work. If we’re fitting a new one, you may be without a toilet for a few hours while we swap it, and we’ll plan that with you.
Do you remove my old bath or shower?
Yes. We take out your old bath or shower, remove all the waste and recycle what we can. It’s part of the installation, so there’s nothing extra to arrange.
Is a wet room suitable for wheelchair users?
Yes. A wet room has a completely flat floor, so you can wheel straight into the shower area. We design the room around the way you move, using building guidance (Approved Document M) as a benchmark: a 1500mm turning circle and an 850mm clear doorway, adjusted for your home. Read our guide to wheelchair accessible showers.
Can I have a seat in my wet room?
Yes. A shower seat is an option in every wet room we fit. You can choose a seat with arm rests, for up to 159kg (25 stone), a wooden slatted seat for up to 254kg (40 stone), our Onyx seat for up to 197kg (31 stone), or a drop-down seat that folds away. You also choose your shower (thermostatic, electric or digital), your wall panels and your flooring colour.
Show 7 more questions
Can you fit a wet room upstairs?
Often, yes. It depends on your floor and where the water can drain. We check the floor and the drainage at your free home visit, and where the water can’t drain away on its own, we fit a small waste pump. Read our guide to wet rooms upstairs.
How much space do I need for a wet room?
A full wet room needs a room of at least 2.0m by 1.4m. The shower area is made to measure, and the most common shower area we fit, across wet rooms and walk-in showers, is 1450mm by 1150mm. We measure your bathroom at the free home visit and design the room around the space and the way you move. For layout ideas, read our guide to disabled wet rooms.
What's the difference between a wet room and a walk-in shower?
The floor. A wet room has a completely flat, waterproof floor with no step at all, so it suits wheelchair users best. A walk-in shower has a low tray with a small step, from 40mm. Wet rooms start from £10,000 and walk-in showers from £8,500, both fully installed. Explore our walk-in showers.
I'm not disabled. Why would I choose a wet room?
Many people choose a wet room to plan ahead. With no step to get over, it stays easy to use if your needs change, and the open floor and wall panels are simple to keep clean. For a balanced view, read the pros and cons of a wet room.
Will I pay VAT on a wet room?
Not if you’re eligible. If you have a disability or a long-term illness and the wet room is for your own use, you will be VAT exempt under HMRC rules (VAT Notice 701/7). If you’re not, but you’re 60 or over, you’ll pay a reduced rate of 5% VAT on a shower with a built-in seat, and on grab rails (HMRC rules for over-60s). Check if you’re VAT exempt with our quick checker.
Can I get help paying for a wet room?
The NHS doesn’t usually pay for a new wet room. If you need one because of a disability, your local council may be able to help through a Disabled Facilities Grant. We don’t offer grants ourselves, but we’re happy to talk you through the options. And if you’re eligible, you won’t pay VAT on your wet room. Read our guide to funding a mobility bathroom.
What guarantee comes with my wet room?
Every installation comes with a 12-month workmanship guarantee as standard, plus the manufacturers’ guarantees on the products. Our optional ForeverCare plan extends that cover, year after year.
